An exhibition and a commemorative meeting were organised in India jointly by the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum, the Victory Museum in Moscow and the International Russophile Movement to mark the 83rd anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Battle of Kursk during the Second World War.

An exhibition titled “Закат операции «Цитадель»” (The Downfall of Operation Citadel) was organised at the Roerich Art Gallery in Trivandrum. About 50 photographs depicting different stages of the Battle of Kursk, the city of Kursk during the war, the horrific experiences of the people, their resilience, and the heroes who fought against Nazi Germany were put on display.

Former Indian military officers, including Col. Sudhakaran Nair and Col. R. P. C. Nair; historian and Secretary of the Kerala History Council Prof. Gopakumar Narayanan; international relations expert Prof. Anil Kumar; and many others attended the inauguration, which was held on 23 August 2026.

The speakers noted that the Soviet victory in the Battle of Kursk marked a decisive turning point on the Eastern Front, ending Germany’s ability to launch major strategic offensives against the Soviet Union. It demonstrated the growing strength, resilience and strategic superiority of the Red Army and paved the way for a sustained Soviet advance westwards. The victory at Kursk significantly accelerated the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany and remains one of the defining victories of the Second World War.

In his address, Ratheesh Nair, Honorary Consul of Russia in Trivandrum, said that more events would be organised in association with the Victory Museum in Moscow to help the younger generation understand the significance of the Soviet victory and its relevance to today’s world order.

The exhibition remains open until 26 August 2026.
