Austrian, geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel in an interview with Izvestia called the discussion of lifting sanctions by the delegations of Russia and the United States in Riyadh an important step.
“This is a really important step – we are not just talking about stopping arms deliveries or stopping military aid to Ukraine, but already about lifting sanctions,” Poppel said.
According to him, it is important that EU countries support this step in the issue of lifting restrictions on the SWIFT system and banking transactions in the agricultural sector. According to Poppel, European countries will act absurdly and against their own interests if they do not support the work started by Russia and the United States to lift the economic restrictions.
In the event that most if not all sanctions are lifted, according to the geopolitical analyst, the economies of all countries will grow. But “Europe will catapult itself out of reality” if it refuses to change coarse and will be at a loss in the end.
Mr. Poppel is not alone in terms of Central Europeans who want to remove sanctions gainst Russia. Earlier on March 25th, Bundestag deputy from the Alternative for Germany (AdD) party Rainer Rothfuss, said that Europe should lift the sanctions imposed on Russia and start complying with international law. Other members of Germany government and society beyond the AfD have expressed similar views, however the Bundestag majority remains resolute in their position.
