Welding of the bodies of the first wagons of the Russian high-speed train EVS360 has been completed at the Ural Locomotives plant. This is reported by Rollingstock with reference to the HSR (High-Speed Rail) Information Center.
We are talking about the lead engine and the second non-engine wagons, which will be involved in the test tests. Other train cars are currently in production.
Viktor Lesh, General Director of the Sinara Group, reported on the progress of the work to Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Saveliev. The report was made during a meeting dedicated to the implementation of the Moscow –St. Petersburg high-speed rail project.
The event was held in the format of a teleconference, during which a video clip about the production process was shown and detailed comments from the company’s management were presented.
Welding of the train car bodies has become one of the key stages in the creation of the train. At the first stage, large elements were made – side and end walls, roof and frame. After that, the components were mechanically processed at milling processing centers. Separately, the complexity of the installation process of the driver’s cabin frame, which forms the streamlined shape of the head car, is noted.



49 components were manufactured
The bodies are made of extruded aluminum profile. This material is about three times lighter than steel, which reduces the load on the upper structure of the track. This is of fundamental importance for rolling stock designed for speeds up to 360 kilometers per hour. According to the developers, the electric train will have an aerodynamic shape with a minimum drag coefficient, which should reduce noise and energy consumption.
According to the HSR Information Center, in parallel with the body assembly, the manufacture, testing and certification of key components are underway. As of February, 49 items of components have been manufactured, and 12 of them have already been successfully tested. In particular, in February, the Russian Electric Motors launched the TAD650 traction asynchronous motor.
The eight-car EVS360 trains are designed for a large-scale project to develop a network of high-speed highways in Russia. The maximum operational speed is stated at 360 kilometers per hour. 43 trains, 344 cars in total, worth 229 billion rubles have already been ordered for the first line – the Moscow–St. Petersburg high-speed railway.

According to the approved schedule, the first samples of the train should be ready for certification tests in the summer of 2027. The launch of regular operation on the first line is scheduled for April 2028. The first two trains will go for certification tests in 2027, after which the phased delivery of serial trains will begin.
In total, by the end of 2030, Ural Locomotives should produce 43 high-speed trains for the first main line. The project is considered as a base for the further development of the HSR network in the country.
During the meeting, Vitaly Saveliev thanked the company’s staff for the work done and stressed the need to meet the schedule in order to ensure the start of traffic on the first line on time. Thus, the welding of the first bodies became an important milestone in the creation of the first fully domestic high-speed electric train.
