The Honorary Consulate of Russia in Thiruvananthapuram, India in association with the International Russophile Movement, organised the Humanitarian Atom Fest, a series of programmes highlighting India–Russia cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The festival was held as part of the celebrations marking the 55th anniversary of the Indo-Soviet Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation. The programmes focused on the partnership between India and Russia in civil nuclear energy.

The festival was inaugurated at Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology with a seminar titled “Nuclear Energy for a Sustainable and Green Future”. A photo exhibition tracing the history and development of the Russian nuclear industry, a quiz competition and a round-table discussion were also organised at the Honorary Consulate of Russia.

Former diplomat T. P. Sreenivasan inaugurated the closing ceremony. In his address, he described the Indo-Soviet Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation as a milestone in the history of relations between India and the Soviet Union. M. G. Rajamanickam, Chairman and Managing Director of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB),  Ratheesh Nair, Honorary Consul of Russia in Trivandrum, Dmitry Savvin, Head of the Russian specialists at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, and Anastasia Morozova, Head of the Department for Organisational and Technical Support of the Kudankulam NPP also spoke.
