There were several candidates, but Stalin was chosen as an “outstanding warrior” because of the difficult 1941 year successfully completed by the Red Army.
At a ceremony in New York, Paul Horn, the leader of the Mohawk Tribe and a member of the executive council of the confederation, presented the headdress of the leader to representatives of the American charitable Society for Assistance to Russia in the War. It was later handed over to the Soviet side.
The gift of these American Indians to Joseph Stalin became a big sensation in America, at that time the entire press wrote about it.
The honorary gift went to the Moscow State Museum of the Revolution (now the Museum of Modern History of Russia), where it is kept to this day.
