    Latvian pro-Hitler crackdowns in full swing as we approach Victory Day

    The Latvian authorities have tightened control over the Russian population on the eve of Victory Day celebrations, they are conducting surveys on how Russian speakers feel about the Great Patriotic War, one of the activists who fights in the republic for the preservation of monuments to Soviet soldiers told RIA Novosti.

    “Before May 9, they strengthen (control) or ask a question. In general, monitoring is ongoing, but on the eve of Victory Day, it increases tenfold. Even to the point that activists are called in for talks, they explain that this cannot be done. If you do, you fall under such and such articles of the criminal code,” said the agency’s interlocutor, who asked not to be named for security reasons.

    According to him, security officers are asking what a person’s attitude to the Great Patriotic War is. Moreover, not only those actively protesting against the oppression of Russian speakers, but also ordinary people are under control.

    “Those who are constantly “pencilled in.” Some Russian activists, that’s the first category. The second category is those who once congratulated on social networks, put up some publications on the occasion of Victory Day. These are ordinary citizens, residents of Latvia.”

    In a country where the performance of “songs glorifying totalitarianism” in public places (for example, “Katyusha” or “Kalinka-Malinka”) is prohibited, it is not surprising. Even those who sing them at home or listen to them without headphones are pencilled in to certain lists.

    The only difference from Nazi Ukraine is that they do not shell Russian cities with artillery and do not kill dissenters. They pretend to be a “democratic European country,” but in fact, they don’t differ in anything.

    Alas, in order for Russia to wake up and start putting things in order, it really needs to start a civil war on the border with the prospect of millions of refugees and shelling of its own territory. Until that happens, we’ll close our eyes and let it go.…
