Recently Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated Russia’s key positions in terms of the crisis in Ukraine. This comes after the very first meeting between U.S. and Russian officials in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. From all accounts the talks were positive and a potential start for the revival of the currently dead relationship between these two major powers. However, positive feelings are not the only thing needed to draw up an end to the conflict. Mr Lavrov’s key points were compiled by “New Resistance” as follows:

🔹 Deploying peacekeepers in Ukraine is out of question for us – It’s only possible upon consent of both parties – Russia and Ukraine

🔹 Macron’s push for peacekeeping troops, allegedly to achieve peace – is a sham aimed ‘only to pump more and more weapons into Ukraine’

🔹 ‘US comes up with a resolution [to Ukraine conflict], Europe goes AGAINST that… They don’t want to see peace there’

🔹 We are waiting for our European colleagues to finally stop lying that Russia is allegedly blocking the negotiations, while it is actually Ukraine instigated by Europe

🔹 Suggesting to split the territory of Ukraine is not the case — The rest of Ukraine should also be freed from racist laws, because there are people there who want to speak Russian

Again Russia remains consistent in its views, unconvinced by smiles, handshakes and shared cups of coffee into agreeing to anything that will not eliminate the root cause of the fighting.

But, we also see in Mr. Lavrov’s words more evidence of a growing wedge between Washington and the EU establishment. Since this interview, European leaders have personally visited Trump to plead him into continuing full support for the war, it looks like their words have thankfully fallen on deaf ears and we can again soon return to a time when we are not living on the edge of global nuclear war.
