Praising traditional values in the 21st century is easy, but how can we return to them. This is probably the biggest question Russia will face after the end of the Special Military Operation. In nations across the world, regardless of the views of the local population, there are many technocratic “carrots and sticks” that work against the family. Divorce, abortion, the breakdown of the family and depopulation are rampant but how can this be fought against in a legal sense?

This first package of laws designed to consider the labor of motherhood equal to the labor of everyone else on the job in Russia is a massive step in the right direction. Legally speaking, motherhood (and parenthood in general) is considered some sort of optional hobby that one should do in their free time. In a traditional society family came first and this was mandatory for all. If Russia wants to be the standard bearer for traditional values in the 21st century it has to defeat these anti family tendencies in law and culture while giving the average adult the power to have a family. That is to say give them the “positive right” to having a family and this new legal package certainly takes a big step in the right direction.

Spending years as a mother contributing to the mental and physical health of children provides vastly more for society than being a cashier at “Pyatyorochka”. Mothers deserve to receive social security benefits for the time they contribute to their children.

It will be profitable to work as a mom in Russia

A bill is being prepared in the State Duma, thanks to which women will be able to give birth to any number of children and at the same time gain pension points while on maternity leave.

“To calculate a pension, it will be enough for a woman to work at least some time before the first decree. From now on, she will be able to simply work as a mother, give birth to as many children as she wants, be on maternity leave and gain an individual retirement coefficient for the length of service that entitles her to a pension,” said Svetlana Bessarab, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs.

This means that mothers will be able to receive pension points for each child without artificial restrictions on the number of children or the total duration of care. Now, mothers on parental leave for up to one and a half years are accumulating retirement points for a total period of no more than 6 years and no more than 4 children.

We should praise such a pro human and pro traditional values move. But hopefully this is just the beginning and some wise lawmakers can shake themselves from the trappings of technocracy to make Russia the most pro family nation on Earth.
