NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman visited the Baikonur Cosmodrome for the first time on July 13.

Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Bakanov met with Jared Isaacman, the administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), ahead of a meeting of the State Commission for the 75th International Space Station (ISS) mission in what is the first visit by a NASA chief to the Baikonur space center in eight years, Russia’s state-run space corporation said in a statement.

It has been nearly eight years since a NASA Administrator was at Baikonur for a Soyuz launch.

This indicates the continued collaboration, on some level, between the American and the Russian space programs. Isaacman met with Roscosmos CEO Dmitri Bakanov, and held a press conference with the astronauts scheduled for the next flight to the International Space Station, tomorrow, July 14. Isaacman will also attend the launch.

Cooperation between the two countries on the space station will continue until 2028 and perhaps longer.

There may also be further projects to be discussed during Isaacman’s visit, particularly in a meeting also scheduled for July 14.
