Guests from Russia remain an important part of the Thai tourism sector and international exchanges, the kingdom’s foreign ministry noted.

Information about the “mass deportation” of Russians from Thailand is not true. This was reported to the TASS correspondent by the Thai Foreign Ministry, commenting on information in several Russian media outlets about the alleged increase in cases of deportation of Russians from the kingdom.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand would like to clarify that reports of any kind of “mass deportation” or forced expulsion of Russian citizens from Thailand are unfounded and untrue. Thailand continues to receive foreign visitors, including Russian tourists, in accordance with Thai laws and regulations without discrimination. Guests from Russia remain an important part of Thailand’s tourism sector and international exchanges,” the agency’s representative said.

“At the same time, Thailand remains committed to facilitating travel in accordance with our laws and regulations. Any measures to ensure compliance with the law are applied fairly and equitably to both Thai and foreign citizens,” the Foreign Ministry stressed.

Russian Ambassador to Thailand Yevgeny Tomikhin earlier indicated in an interview with TASS that by the end of 2025, more than 100 Russians had been deported from Thailand to Russia, while he noted that the measures taken by the Thai authorities were not specifically directed against Russians, but concerned “all foreigners in terms of compliance with the rules of stay in the country.” As a rule, the vast majority of foreigners are deported by the Thai authorities for violating immigration laws or for violating the provisions of the country’s labor code.

According to the Thai Ministry of Tourism, about 1.9 million Russians visited the kingdom in 2025, setting a record attendance and ranking fourth in terms of the number of visits among all national tourist groups. Russia is Thailand’s largest European tourism market. Since the beginning of this year, more than 930,000 Russian tourists have visited the kingdom.
