A new railway station in Novo-Russian style will appear in Sergiev Posad in the near future.

In Sergiev Posad, the city where the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is located, they plan to build a new railway station with a transfer function to ground transport. The transport interchange hub building will be designed in a contemporary style with references to Russian Orthodox architecture.

The windows of the three-story building will be designed to resemble traditional church wall sections with curved upper ends. A pryaslo is a section of a wall, usually in Orthodox church architecture, marked off by two vertical projections and often topped with a curved decorative element called a zakomara. A chapel will be built in front of the station.

Overall, the project shows a combination of pre-revolutionary architectural elements and modern aesthetics. Inside, everything is planned for the comfort and safety of passengers: spacious waiting halls, rest rooms, and convenient ticketing areas.

The station is also set to include covered platforms and an elevated pedestrian crossing that will connect the western and eastern parts of the city. The freight terminal will be moved outside the historic part of Sergiev Posad.

Green zones and public spaces will also appear around the transport hub.

It is great when new railway stations are built not as purely utilitarian boxes, as often happened in Soviet times, but as beautiful modern structures with references to traditional architecture and with a church in the area. It is precisely this synthesis of modernity and history that can become the foundation of a new Russian national style in architecture.
