On June 20, 2025, a significant event took place in Bucharest – the official establishment of the Romanian branch of the International Russophile Movement (IRM). The Romanian branch founder was elected to head of the new chapter. The opening ceremony was supported and presented by representatives of IRM from different countries including: Albania, Cyprus, Slovak-Czech branch, Czech Republic and founder from the Bulgarian branch.

In memory of the heroes of World War II, the delegation laid flowers and wreaths at the Soviet military cemetery in Bucharest on the Day of Remembrance and Grief (June 22nd).

Traditionally, the opening of the branch was accompanied by a conference organized jointly by the IRM and the Russian Embassy in Romania. The theme of the forum, “The Great Victory and the Role of Historical Memory in Building the Architecture of Modern International Relations,” set the tone for the discussion.

Opening the conference, Vladimir Lipayev, Ambassador of Russia to Romania, emphasized the importance of preserving historical truth in the face of declining educational standards. 
He noted that the loss of knowledge about historical facts makes new generations vulnerable to manipulation and leads to the repetition of past mistakes, highlighting the disparity in the contributions of the Western Allies and the Soviet Army to the defeat of fascism.

The day ended with a sightseeing tour of Bucharest for the MDR representatives.
