    Russia Celebrates Maslenitsa 2026! (Videos)

    Published on

This year for most of Russia Maslenitsa, marking the beginning of Lent, was celebrated in tons of cold snow but with warm hearts, here are some videos highlighting this year’s celebrations. This should give you a good image of how the holiday looks in its various forms across the world’s biggest country.

The Altai Region is known for its unprecedented beauty and to an extent its isolation deep in the Eurasian landmass. But as you can see many people gathered to celebrate the coming spring and start of Lent.

Normally a scarecrow of a woman is burned near the end of Maslenitsa to symbolize a sort of “out with the old, in with the new” attitude towards the new year. However, in a moment of humore Russians burned a giant Labubu toy, which was one of the more annoying trends of 2025. Good riddance?

Above you can see a more traditional scarecrow woman being burned.

During Maslenitsa, in right by the Kremlin, there was also a massive celebration for Chinese New Year. Many guests from China seemed to be pleasantly surprised as local Russians rejoiced during their holiday with food and games.

And here is a video about what the ideal Russian Maslenitsa should look like! This really captures the true spirit of the holiday!
