The Latvian parliament proposed banning teachers from communicating in Russian at school, even in their free time.

The initiative of the deputies of the Progressive Party is so vague that it creates the basis for a broad interpretation.

So, if the amendments are accepted, then they can start punishing teachers for talking to a colleague or a student in Russian at recess, in the cafeteria, on the way from class to the cloakroom – these will be “actions that raise doubts about the importance of the national language.”
