A colorful event on the occasion of the National Flag Day of the Russian Federation was held in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, near the Russian Embassy.

The festive program opened with a performance of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation, followed by music and poetry. The event brought together numerous participants – compatriots and friends of Russian Cypriots, who gathered to express their love and respect for this great country.

Murat Zyazikov , Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Cyprus, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech:

“The tricolor flag is the most important symbol of our history, culture and spiritual values, which are carefully preserved and passed down from generation to generation, as well as the most important symbol of Russian statehood, because under this flag Russia asserts its sovereignty, protects freedom and confidently builds the future.

For those living abroad, the Russian tricolor is also a symbol of a living connection with the Motherland. It unites people regardless of distances, reminding of our common responsibility to preserve historical memory, native language and cultural heritage.

It is especially encouraging to see that our dear Russophile Cypriot friends treat the Russian flag with sincere love and pride. I would like to express my deep gratitude to all of Russia’s friends on Cyprus for their support, respect and warm attitude towards our country. I am confident that the traditionally strong ties of friendship between Russia and Cyprus will continue to develop for the benefit of our peoples!“

On the eve of the holiday, representatives of the Cyprus branch of the International Russophile Movement decorated the facade of the Embassy with 80 Russian flags in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory over Nazi Germany. This symbolic gesture became a tribute to the memory of the heroic deed of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War and the embodiment of the idea of an inextricable link between generations. The flags are placed on the metal fence of the diplomatic mission between panels with photographs of Hero Cities and Cities of military glory of Russia.
