On May 6th this year in Nicosia, on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, a procession of the “Immortal Regiment” took place. It included the music of memory, the fire of gratitude and the faces of Victory. And, it had many members from the International Russohphile Movement proudly in attendance.

Hundreds of people – compatriots, children and grandchildren of veterans, friends of Russia and Cypriots – gathered with portraits of World War II heroes to march through the streets of Nicosia in a unified rhythm of remembrance by carrying the images of their loved ones who fought for freedom during World War II.

At the walls of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Cyprus more than a thousand people gathered together to pay tribute to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. The participants of the procession carried portraits of their relatives – front-line heroes, home front workers, blockade survivors, concentration camp prisoners. All those who contributed to the Great Victory. They also carried a massive Russian flag.

Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Murat Zyazikov took part in the event, carrying a photograph of his grandfather Magomet Ismailovich Zyazikov, who defended the Ingush town of Malgobek, one of the most important frontiers of the North Caucasus, from Nazi invaders during the war.

The event was a huge success. Every year leading up to Victory Day, Immortal Regiment processions are held across the globe by those who want to keep the memory of the sacrifices of the Soviet Union and Allies during WWII alive for future generations.
