    Serbia Remembers Russian Soldiers who fought in WWI

    On the Day of Remembrance of the Russian soldiers who fell during the First World War of 1914-1918, a traditional ceremony was held at the Memorial of Russian Glory in the New Cemetery of Belgrade.

    Russian graves of soldiers and officers of the Russian Imperial Army were laid in Odessa on the 112th anniversary of the entry of the Russian Empire into World War I. In response to the call of the fraternal Serbian people, who were subjected to aggression from Austria-Hungary and Germany, and on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the formation of the 1st Serbian Volunteer Division.

    The event was attended by Charge d’affaires of Russia in Serbia A.V.Semenikhin, State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans Affairs and Social Affairs O.Jovovich, State Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications P.Matovich, representatives of republican, regional and municipal authorities, political parties, patriotic and veteran associations, Russian-Serbian friendship and organizations of Russian compatriots.

    Ivan Kostic, Secretary General of the International Russophile Movement, also attended today’s ceremony in Belgrade.

    Archpriest Vitaly Tarasyev, rector of the Russian Orthodox Church in Belgrade, performed a prayer service in memory of the fallen soldiers.

    “Sleep, battle eagles,
    Sleep with peace of mind!
    You deserve it, dear ones,
    Glory and eternal rest…”
