DESECRATION OF MONUMENTS IS NOT PART OF THE TRADITION OF THE SERBIAN PEOPLE

The recent desecration of the monument to Soviet army soldiers in the Chachalitsa Memorial Park in Pozharevets is an act that humiliates the memory of the millions of victims of the Russian people in the struggle against Nazi Hitler.

We strongly condemn the two incidents that have occurred in Serbia over the past month related to the desecration and painting of monuments to Soviet soldiers during World War II. We are talking about unacceptable actions that offend the feelings of all those who honor the enormous sacrifices of the Red Army, whose soldiers made a significant contribution to the liberation of Serbia.

Despite the fact that Serbia is one of the few countries in the world that had two anti-fascist movements, it is obvious that our country needs additional educational work among the younger generation, who should objectively imagine who and what contribution they made to the Second World War, which led to the collapse of the anti-civilizational phenomena of Nazism and fascism.

Such things have not happened in Serbia for the past 80 years, so we believe that this is the work of individuals who are not friends of Serbia and obviously intend to disrupt the fraternal and historically positive relations between the Serbian and Russian peoples.

We expect the competent authorities to respond immediately, identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice in accordance with the law so that such incidents do not happen again.
