“The West is preparing for conflict with Russia under ‘Russian threat’ narrative” – Lavrov

Western countries are actively preparing for a possible conflict with Russia while promoting a “myth” of a Russian threat, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the opening of the 4th Congress of the International Russophile Movement.

Lavrov argued that Western governments accuse Russia of undermining “European values” while applying double standards on issues of history, culture and international law.

Key statements:

🔹 A large-scale “propaganda campaign” against Russia is underway ahead of the upcoming State Duma elections

🔹 There are still many people in Western countries who remain interested in Russian culture, language and traditions

🔹 US representatives are more willing to engage in dialogue with Russia than European officials

🔹 Dialogue with Washington has so far produced no material benefits for Russia and is not expected to do so in the near future

🔹 Western actions have convinced many countries that agreements with Western states should be approached with caution

🔹 The principle of territorial integrity is the only UN Charter principle consistently supported by the West, while others are violated

🔹 The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has become a key pillar of security and sustainable development in Eurasia

🔹 Lavrov was shocked by reports about plans by Ukrainian authorities to create a “pantheon of heroes” that would include the remains of Nazi figures.
