My neighbor has a grandfather. A grandfather with a capital “G”. He is a hero. A real one. He fought in the war. He’s turning 99 this year.
And, he still drives a car, God bless him.
One day he and his great-grandson went to buy Grandpa a new car to replace his old one, that had long outlived its usefulness.
They went to a car dealership. The pair looked through all the models, options, colors and upgrades. They decided to take out some fresh insurance, right there in the showroom.
The girl behind the computer asked Grandpa this and that, and then she wanted to know his year of birth.
Grandpa said, “1921″.
She entered it into the computer. How many years of driving experience do you have?
Grandpa replied “73 years”.
And instead of the usual 6-10 thousand, the computer suddenly gave the amount… only 600 rubles and one kopeck!
It turned out that the program had malfunctioned: it didn’t know that there could be such a huge length of driving experience.
But then things became even more interesting…
The girl looks at the result and gets dumbfounded. “I’m new here”, she says, “I need to contact the head office to clarify”.
She called the office, they connected her to the local boss, and he gets involved. The insurance company supervisor was asking to put the old man on speakerphone.
The supervisor:
— We’re sorry, but there’s got to be a mistake here, so what year of birth did you say?
Grandfather:
— 1921.
— And your driving record?
— 73 years.
— Oh! What was your first car, if it’s no secret?
— a Т-34.
The company chief must have been on speakerphone, too, because the department applauded from the speaker phone.
After a second’s thought, the chief instructed the girl:
— Get him free insurance for the rest of his life!
And quietly added:
— If it weren’t for his “thirty-four” you and I wouldn’t even be here to sell any insurance…
