The EU cited the singer’s support for his independence and the reunification of Crimea with Russia in 2014, as well as his participation in the election campaign of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as the reason for the sanctions.

As part of the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions, the EU imposed restrictions against Russian singer Timur Yunusov, known under the pseudonym Timati (“Timothy” spelled phonetically in Russian). This is stated in the statement of the EU Council, published in the Official Journal of the EU.

In September 2025, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) put Timati on the wanted list. On June 13 last year, the SBU also charged the rapper in absentia under the article on violation of the order of entry into territories not controlled by Kiev. Since 2017, Timati has also been listed in the database of the Ukrainian extremist website Mirotvorets.
