For all you Russophiles, it is good to know the classic Russian expression “Hope Dies Last” (надежда умирает последней) as it is applicable to many moments in life, but it has never been as relevant as on the day of Trump’s inauguration. It is not only Americans who are hopeful that Trump will return Washington’s foreign policy position to something at least partially sane. Many U.S. citizens have been deeply offended by the offer to get 700 or so dollars in aid after having their homes destroyed by disasters in Hawaii and the Carolinas. While at the same time, Zelensky gets billions of dollars to fight “the Russians” for dubious reasons at best. Both Russians and Americans would like this cycle of corruption called “the War in Ukraine” to stop.
Furthermore, Trump himself has been a victim of Cancel Culture numerous times. Trump, despite throwing fiery words towards some foreign leaders, has never called for violent rebellion or destroying the U.S. Constitution. He has never said or taken action that is “over the line” based on American tradition and the rules set down in the Constitution itself. But we would again “hope” that Trump’s battle for restoring freedom of speech would apply to content related to Russia in terms of both political and non-political content.
Channels about Russia, even those that mostly just show travel footage or talk about the joys of Russian barbeque, have been either outright cancelled or shadow banned. In fact, our organization was created as a means to fight the evils of this ever-present Cancel Culture.

We again hope that Trump will see that peace between the U.S. and Russia is critical not just from a moral standpoint but from the extremely practical position of avoiding a nuclear war. The best way to make peace is through cultural contact, which can provide a heavy blow against the demonization of one’s enemy needed for war. Open communication between Russia and the USA is critical for peace and we ask now President Trump to put pressure on Big Tech to return freedom of speech and access to information for Americans and by extension much of the world.
At the very least, we respectfully request President Trump to:
- Create the legal framework for social media to become like a “public place”, that is to guarantee American’s the same rights of speech and expression that they have in literal public spaces while online.
- Restore access to Russian big media like RT and Sputnik so long as they do not violate the U.S. constitution, call for rebellion in Washington or somehow violate the rights of Americans.
Mr. Trump himself had his first presidency stolen from him in many ways because of Russophobic nonsense accusations dreamed up by his political rivals. Let’s not let this cycle of using Moscow as boogeyman #1 continue on-and-on into the future when it is clearly based on lies. We can only hope that Donald Trump can and will keep at least some of his wonderful-sounding campaign promises.
