More dangerous Russophobia in Berlin: Russia House to be Closed

Maria Zakharova called Berlin’s pretext for aggravation with Russia a made-up one

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Germany would receive a “fitting response” for the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin. The diplomat informed Izvestia about this on September 1.

“Both the Russian House and our Consulate General in Bonn have been bothering the ruling elite for a long time. Now they’ve come up with a reason. Well, they will get a decent answer,” Zakharova stressed.

According to the representative of the Foreign Ministry, Germany has once again escalated bilateral relations with Russia under a made-up pretext. Zakharova noted that Berlin has not provided convincing evidence of its accusations in the incident with the alleged Russian drone in Leipzig.

On the same day, German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl announced that the German authorities had decided to close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn by September 18, as well as denounce the agreement on the activities of the Russian House in Berlin. Vadefulh also reported on other measures: The Russian ambassador in Berlin was summoned to the German Foreign Ministry, and entry controls were tightened for Russian citizens.
