“The Nobel Peace Prize has become a political bargaining chip, and today’s winner is another proof of this”, said Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma.

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2025 Peace Prize to Machado “for her tireless work to advance the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people,” the Nobel Committee in Oslo said on Friday.

“The Nobel Peace Prize has become a political bargaining chip. The funds of the scientist and inventor are not spent for their intended purpose, but to sponsor oppositions and revolutions. Using the authority of the once prestigious award, in fact, the puppeteers use it to finance their political puppets. Today’s winner is another proof of this,” Volodin wrote on his Max Messenger channel.

He noted that the Venezuelan opposition leader, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, tried to sow discord and split society, which is a direct path to civil war.

“Those who represent the Nobel Committee today are shameful and parasites. Nobel is turning over in his grave at how they spend his money… it would be better if they were sent to treat children, help victims of emergencies, and save natural resources. In a word, for the benefit of humanity. As bequeathed by Nobel,” he concluded.

“The Nobel Peace Prize is usually given to those who destroy states. Therefore, the CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet Union) should have removed Mikhail Gorbachev from the post of Secretary General as soon as he received the award,” said Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin.”

He noted that exactly 35 years ago – on October 15, 1990 – the Nobel Committee awarded Gorbachev the Peace Prize.

“He should have been expelled from the party on that day, he should have been removed from the general secretary on that day, then perhaps the country would have remained. <…> They don’t just give out cookies there. They give them (the Nobel prizes) to those who destroy states,” Volodin said.

According to the chairman of the State Duma, Gorbachev “destroyed the Soviet Union,” and the winner of the 2025 Peace Prize, Maria Corine Machado, an opposition former member of the Venezuelan parliament, was destroying her country, leading it to civil war.
