The head of Gagauzia, Yevgenia Gutsul, detained in Moldova, has asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to use diplomatic and political mechanisms to have her released. Gagauzia is a semi-autonomous region within Moldova, a former Soviet Republic, which now finds it self in a dangerous position due to the War in Ukraine.

“On behalf of the Gagauz people, who have never betrayed their historical friends, we appeal to you, dear Vladimir Vladimirovich,” – Yevgenia Gutsul

In addition, she asked the Russian head of state to put pressure on the Moldovan authorities to stop political repressions throughout the country. The previous president of the nation, Igor Dodon, who has been seen to have “pro-Russian” views was put under house arrest for a time. This was done under dubious charges of charges of “high treason, illicit enrichments, corruption, and illegal financing of his party“. He was later released. To this day none of these allegations have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. They appear to have been a political maneuver to keep the popular Dodon from potentially returning to power.

Detention of Yevgenia Gutsul

Earlier, the legally elected head of Gagauzi, Yevgenia Gutsul, was detained for 72 hours at the airport in Chisinau the capital city of Moldova. She was taken from the Chisinau airport to the National Anti-Corruption Center (NAC), where they said that she was detained for 72 hours.

She is accused of financial irregularities in the elections that took place two years ago. The Gagauz parliament protested and demanded her immediate release. The Moldovan “Victory Bloc”, the largest opposition movement to Maia Sandu in Moldova, made the same statement.

Gutsul said that she was forced to appeal to the Russian leader, who has always stood up for the rights of the Gagauz people. The Gagauz have threatened to potentially leave Moldova if the War in Ukraine were to spread to their country forcing locals to fight and die for NATO like the Ukrainians. The Gagauz do not want to share this fate.

According to the NAC, prosecutors intended to demand Gutsul’s arrest in the case of violation of the management of electoral funds, illegal financing of competitors, and falsification of documents and declarations related to the 2023 elections in Gagauzia.

In addition, the NAC conducted searches in the case against the treasurer appointed for that election campaign.

According to her lawyer, Gutsul was interrogated as a suspect and she did not plead guilty.
The detention came against the backdrop of worsening relations between Chisinau and Gagauzia. She has repeatedly criticized the central authorities for infringing on the rights of the autonomy and advocated strengthening ties with Russia.

Gutsul, like Dodon, was placed under house arrest

Gutsul became head of Gagauzia in the spring of 2023, having won the elections, in which she ran from the “Shor” opposition party. The Moldovan authorities declared the political force unconstitutional, accused it of illegal financing and opened criminal cases against the party leaders. In addition, Kishinev has launched audits of the election results themselves.

Yevgenia Gutsul was first detained at the end of March and arrested for 20 days. The term was due to expire on April 14th, but the prosecutor’s office requested its extension. The court granted the request only partially: Gutsul was then placed under house arrest for 30 days.

The politician has already thanked the court for the opportunity to see her children. However, at the same time, she emphasized that they put her for two weeks in prison completely illegally.

The dangerous new trend in Europe

Be it Georgiescu in Romania, La Pen in France, and now Mr. Gutsul in Moldova, the winners of popular elections that do not serve the interests of the EU Globalist Elite are under attack. They are not just getting bashed by words like Victor Orban, or attacked by madmen like Robert Fico, but are now formally being arrested on fake charges with a side dish of Russophobic accusations.

In Ms. Gutsul’s case these pro-Russian leanings are true, but just because someone feels Moldova would benefit from cooperation with Russia does not make them a traitor or a dangerous individual. It is obvious that she is being punished not for some type of corruption or electoral manipulation but because she wants to have a good relationship with Russia. This is one of the cardinal sins of Europe and we are seeing more and more that bold individuals are being punished for having a particular non-violent, non-harmful, and rather logical political viewpoint.

We hope that Yevgenia will be able to return to her normal life soon, never to be arrested again for her positive view of economic partnership with Moscow.
